What does it take?
All of our trips require at least an average level of fitness and some biking skills. These are the two major components of mountain biking. You don‘t have to be a specialist biker and you don‘t have to be super fit for the average trip. Most of us have these capabilities to varying degrees and they can compensate one another. If you are lacking skill you may be fine with a good fitness but if you are very skilled you may get a away with less fitness. Both can be developed and like with most sports a reasonable increase in the level of difficulty makes the safest and most enjoyable experience.
We rank our trips in four categories by level of difficulty. |
Moderate |
These trips travel almost entirely on roads although they may be gravel roads from time to time that can be quite rough in Iceland. Lacking technical mountain biking these trips don‘t require previous mountain biking experience. Days can still be quite long with considerable elevation gains so at least an average level of fitness is required.
Challenging |
Our challenging trips travel mostly or only on gravel roads. They would not confront you with very technical sections like single-tracks but these trips tend to travel through quite remote parts of Iceland with challenging weather conditions from time to time and even the occasional un-bridged river. Good fitness and at least some mountain biking experience is required.
Demanding |
Our demanding trips would have quite a few single-track sections, considerable climbing and long days from time to time. Usually we travel through the interior of Iceland where we have a lot of un-bridged rivers of all sizes and weather conditions that can pose a challenge in itself. We would reccommend good fitness and a reasonable experience in biking of the beaten track.
Extreme |
Our extreme trips are for experienced mountain bikers in good physical condition. They would include a lot of single-tracks climbs and/or downhill sections, un-bridged rivers and demanding milage during most days. |
